5 Things You Need To Stop Doing On Instagram ⚠
We talk all the time about things you should do on Instagram, but we should also talk about things we need to STAPH doing on Instagram ASAP!
Because friends don't let friends:
1. MASS TAG PEOPLE IN YOUR PICTURES
What sounded like a great strategy to get likes right away, became one of people's biggest pet peeves on Instagram. When you get mass tagged in posts that you're not related and don't represent your brand, people can still see it and associate them with your brand. Also, that's a form of spam! So be thoughtful and only tag people on photos they're involved in somehow, and never tag accounts on top of each other.
2. REGRAM PEOPLE'S CAPTIONS
You need to be careful enough when regramming other people's photos, but lately there's a trend of people regramming people's photos and their captions. When an account regrams a caption, they make it sound like it's theirs. Most people don't do these things with ill intent, but it's still appropriation and we need to do better!
3. POST PHOTOS WITH THE REGRAM APP STICKER ON THEM
The free version of the regram app adds to the photo a small sticker to with the name of the original account. That sticker is not clickable, so it's not really serving as credit, and it also looks really bad on your feed! When regramming, skip the app and make sure you add the credit loud and clear in your caption (and not hidden with a list of hashtags).
4. LOOP GIVEAWAYS
Loop giveaways are the giveaways that force people to follow 20-40 accounts to enter and win an expensive prize. It's a way to get ahead without putting in the work. When you participate in a loop giveaway, you're alienating your real followers and deceiving potential clients or partners, who may think you have an organic audience. So not only they are annoying, but they will also hurt your reputation.
And when you enter those, you're supporting these annoying trend and keeping it alive.
5. ONLY DO POSTS AND STORIES
While most of what I listed until now are what I call "worse practices", that hurt your reputation and annoy others, this one is only getting in the way of your own growth. Posts and stories are the most saturated areas of Instagram. If you want to grow your account and engagement, you should start using Instagram lives, question stickers, making IGTV videos and leveraging your DMs.
